Kids Eat Free and so much more at Pub Fiction in Ancaster

A lack of restaurants is definitely not something that Hamilton is known for. From small local places that pack great taste to popular food trucks and dependable chains, this city has it all. These places appeal to adults in one way or another whether it is location, price, food quality or speed of service. While these are all things we as parents look for in a restaurant they don’t necessarily appeal to our children. Restaurants that appeal to parents and kids alike seems to be a very niche market and one that we are on a continuous search for.  One of my new favourite local places happens to fit into this niche and satisfies the needs of all members of the family, that place is Pub Fiction in Ancaster.

The finger food alone is to die for from mac and cheese bites to turkey wings, wonton nachos, deep fried pickles, pretzel dips and so much more. If you can’t decide they have a pub platter with a variety of these delicious treats. For main dishes you can choose from an assortment of burgers and sandwiches, ribs, steak, fish and pasta all with a unique twist of flavours. The salads whether a side or meal size are beyond delicious and are all tossed with homemade dressings. The beet salad is a personal favourite of mine and if you are looking for a pasta packed full of flavour that doesn’t leave you feeling bloated you have to try the Ricotta Ravioli shown here.

Despite the name this place is nothing like your "typical" pub. From the design, visual appeal and menu a visit here is anything but ordinary. My absolute favourite thing about this place is that you can have your meal in a car and I am not talking about your own car in the parking lot after cruising through the drive thru. At Pub Fiction they have transformed a Steam Whistle Camaro to a special booth in the middle of the action, creating the perfect vantage point for a couple of rounds of eye spy. You can reserve the car ahead of time as well to guarantee your family the most unique dining experience.

Majority of the time the kids menus at most restaurants tend to be pretty much the same and for those trying to encourage healthy options for their picky eaters it can be a challenge to get anything but ketchup with a side of French fries in their bellies. The great thing about Pub Fiction is while they do have the kid’s favourites they also have healthy alternatives and a wide range of side dishes. Salad, veggies cooked and raw, apple slices, mashed potatoes, waffle fries and blue nachos are on the list to choose from. The servers also really cater to families by placing the children’s order first so that they don’t have to wait as long. This helps a great deal especially when faced with such an amazing menu from the adult side that you need some extra time to narrow it down.

I assure you the fun is not over after dinner. There is also an ice hockey table, not “air” but “ice” to add to the excitement.  My boys had a ball battling it out with mini hockey sticks on a slab of ice and of course since it was at no extra cost it made mom very happy.  I promise that with all that Pub Fiction has to offer the family for a fun night out, your bellies and wallet will not leave disappointed.
